Hungarian Vizsla Club of SA Third Championship Show

Judge:  Mrs. Faye Harris [Hanafor] (Tas.)

I would like to thank the club for inviting me to judge.  It is always an honour to be asked to judge one's own breed and even more so in one's own country.  I would also like to commend exhibitors on their sportsmanship and friendliness.  In all a great weekend.  Thank you.

Firstly a few comments on the exhibits overall.  I found many with great attitude in the ring and must say all temperaments were excellent.  Bites were correct.  Feet generally were good.  There were plenty of dogs with well angulated hindquarters and correctly set tails.  I did however find quite a few dogs with short, straight upper arms.  There were also several exhibits with, in my opinion, too much 'dip' be-hind the withers spoiling the topline.

Congratulations on a well run show and I wish all exhibitors and the club all the best for the future.

Minor Puppy Dog

1 entry.

1st:  Mosslar's
Daingeann Kobi

8 month old puppy, moved evenly around the ring.  Correct bone, depth of chest.  Temperament good.  Would like to see more lay back of shoulder and more animation in this youngster.

Puppy Dog

2 entries.

1st:  Leopold's
Erdos Cest La Vie

This pup, also 8 months, entered the ring with great attitude, covered ground well with a nice, light spring to his step.  Head needs time.  Good length of neck into well laid shoulders Chest needs to fill out.  Hindquarters well angulated & more strongly built than forequarters.  Feet need correct exercise.

Junior Dog

2 entries.

1st:  Sawley & Marsden's
Erdos Texas Raider

Well balanced dog of correct type.  Pleasant, balanced head.  Moderate throughout & won on overall balance.

2nd:  May's
Erdos Midnite Cowboy

Lacking substance throughout.  Very narrow front.

Intermediate Dog

1 entry.

1st:  Barnett's
Erdos Centre Court

An upstanding dog.  Looked good on the stack but would have liked more angulation.  Moved smartly but with head a little high.  In excellent condition.

State Bred Dog

1 entry.

1st:  Marsden's
Ch. Erdos Alexander

Liked this dog the moment he entered the ring.  Moved soundly with good reach and drive and firm topline.  Very balanced dog.  Super head with clean lines, correct neck into shoulder which really showed on the move.  Perhaps a little more leg would give him more elegance but his overall balance and movement was very good.

Australian Bred Dog

2 entries.

1st:  Townley, Trinka & Walter's
Ch. Aceweis Red N Hot

A heavier style of dog who showed no animation on the move.  Very wide at point of withers with short thick neck.  Lacked elegance and carrying too much white on the chest for me.

Open Dog

2 entries, 1 absent.

1st:  Gallie & Marsden's
Ch. Erdos By Design

Strong, masculine dog well up to size but balanced throughout.  Impressive both standing & moving.  Good topline on move.  Pleasing head and eye.  Shown in excellent condition.

2nd:  Bush's
Gr. Ch. Heiderst Sachmo

A smaller dog than 1st place getter, also in excellent condition and also impressive both standing and moving.  Lost to #1 on overall angulation and balance of head.

3rd:  Marsden's
Ch. Erdos Indiana Jones

Different style to the first two dogs.  Looked better on stack but disappointed on the move especially out & back.

Challenge Dog

Ch. Erdos Alexander.  This dog won on size, balance, straightness of movement which was also effortless and ground covering, the exquisite lines of the head (muzzle in profile is just perfect), his well angulated hindquarters - a moderate dog.

Reserve Challenge Dog

Ch. Erdos By Design.  Another lovely dog but not the head of the DCC winner.

Baby Puppy Bitch

2 entries, 1 absent.

1st:  Marsden's
Erdos Charisma

Typical baby Hungarian Vizsla - very happy.  Promising pup with good movement and attitude.

Puppy Bitch

2 entries.

1st:  Townley & Trinka's
Aceweis Carribean Gold

Quite mature for 8 months.  Nice balance of body and head.  Moved with good reach and drive whilst maintaining level topline on move.  Would like better placed and shaped eyes.

2nd:  Mitchell's
Daingeann Ceilideh

Whilst same age as lst appeared less mature, not an enthusiastic mover today.  Would like to see a little more angulation both front & back.

Junior Bitch

1 entry.

1st:  Marsden's
Erdos Rhapsody In Red

Lots to like in this bitch but needs time and work.  Correct planes to head with clean muzzle.  Good reach and drive on move.  Feet good.

Intermediate Bitch

2 entries.
Both these bitches were neat, even movers of correct size, would have liked more angulation and less tuck-up.

1st:  Draws'
Erdos High Society

Won on better bone and more substance.  Elegant bitch but needs training.

2nd:  Mitchell's
Kimlise Dainty Lady

Quite fine in bone - not happy today.

State Bred Bitch

2 entries.

1st:  Gallie's
Ch. Heiderst Scarlet Fire C.D., A.D., J.D., E.T.

A solid bitch, correct head with good eye.  Well muscled and with a well filled chest, ribbed well back but a little long in body.  Moved well.

Australian Bred Bitch

1 entry.

1st:  Marsden & O'Malley's
Ch. Erdos Material Girl

Lovely style of bitch, medium size, correct proportions, well balanced head.  Effortless mover with good reach and drive.

Open Bitch

3 entries, 2 absent.

1st:  Marsden's
Ch. Erdos Dream Lover

Moved well, excelled in neck into shoulder which was well laid back.  Well angulated hindquarters.  A lovely bitch who just did not hold her topline on the move and unfortunately the further she went the more she lost it.  Considered for CC but lacked animation and desire to win.

2nd:  Mitchell's
Ch. Kimlise Summer Serenade

Nice head but heavier and broader in skull than 1st place getter.  She did hold her topline but did not have enough reach or drive.

Challenge Bitch

Ch. Erdos Material Girl.  This bitch won on balance, elegance and sound, effortless movement.

Reserve Challenge Bitch

Aceweis Carribean Gold.  Great sound movement for one so young.  Hope she fulfils her promise.
