Hungarian Vizsla Club of NSW 12th Championship Show

Judge:  Mrs. Faye Harris [Hanafor] (Vic.)

My thanks goes to the Club for the invitation to judge. As I said on the day, judging in the UK and USA was exciting but there is something special about judging one’s own breed in one’s own country. I never thought this would happen. Thank you very much. Thanks also go to the exhibitors that entered under me and for the sportsmanship shown on the day. Generally I found dogs to be of correct size with happy outgoing temperaments. Heads were very pleasing, many with balanced proportions, correct eye shape and colour. There were no houndy heads with long ears as once seen, and necks were clean. Feet were good. Bites were good though there were many teeth needing a clean. Fronts were not wide and there were very few loose elbows. Hindquarters too were generally very good. What I do feel needs more improving is lay back of shoulder and length of upper arm. I would also like to see exhibitors and handlers moving as a team instead of two separate beings connected by a lead. The lack of teamwork showed particularly when going and coming. Many dogs did not move straight and I did not always feel it was due to the dog’s conformation but rather to training and handling. One must however judge what one can see! In the final analysis I looked for a dog that not only showed but looked as though it could do a day’s work.

Baby Puppy Dog

3 entries, 1 absent.
1st: Middleton's
Eicol Mercury Falling

Neat balanced baby of four months. Behaved like a professional. Moved with good drive and kept topline on the move. Correct tail set and carriage. Preferred this pup’s neck into shoulder especially on the move.

2nd: Szolnoky’s
Kimlise Sirius
Older, heavier baby almost six months. Good feet, well angulated hindquarters, shorter in neck. Topline not as good as 1.

Puppy Dog 2 entries, 1 absent.
1st: Tokaji Kennels’
Hanafor Tan Torley
Ten month old puppy at the awkward stage, all legs and needs to fill out. Balanced head, eye needs to darken. Quality bone with excellent feet. Correct tail set and carriage. Elegant with light footed, ground covering stride with plenty of reach and drive. Very unsettled, needs to steady in movement.

Junior Dog

3 entries, 1 absent.

1st: Hawkins’
Tanrod Golden Mc Goo

Well balanced moderate young dog with pleasing outline. Correct head proportions. Steady mover round the ring. Disappointing going and coming but obviously pulling against the chain. Correct tail set. Nothing to change at this stage except training!

2nd: McLeish’s
Craboon Brooklyn Top Gun

Taller, stronger youngster with good reach and drive around the ring. When stacked stood over plenty of ground with his well angulated hindquarters. Not as good in lay back of shoulder or topline on the move as 1. Well handled.

Intermediate Dog

3 entries.

1st: Middleton's
Ch. Eicol The Specialist

Well balanced dog of correct breed type. Lovely profile on the stack. Would have preferred a less upright head and slightly lower tail carriage on the move. In excellent condition, well muscled. Well trained and handled. Pushed for reserve CC.

2nd: Mitchell’s
Pretorium Mister Mushka

Heavier dog throughout. Moved briskly around the ring. Would have preferred more lay back of shoulder and longer neck. Not the drive in the hindquarters of 1. Correct tail set and carriage.

3rd: Hine’s
Exetora Tarrawana Boy

Darker dog that presented a pretty picture both stacked and moving. Attractive head. Moved with adequate reach and drive. Not the angulation of 1 and 2. Would have preferred more bone and substance.

Australian Bred Dog

3 entries.
This was a difficult class as all three had excellent qualities but movement was disappointing.
1st: Dobson’s
Ch. Willowbank What Now C.D.X.

Taller dog than most, head very pleasing. Moderately long neck leading into correctly placed withers. Good feet. Out and back movement disappointed but movement around the ring displayed good reach and drive. Would have liked more condition.

2nd: Alderton’s
Ch. Hanafor Vari Tibor C.D., E.T.

Smaller, very muscular dog. Well balanced, very good head proportions with dark eye, excels in shape of skull and ear placement. Good feet. Would have preferred more angulation in front. Again out and back movement disappointed but movement around the ring even and free flowing though not the drive of 1.

3rd: Elessar Kennels’
Ch. Hanafor Caveat Reiffel

This was the breed type for which I was looking. Balanced head with well shaped eye of correct colour, excellent depth of chest, good bone, good feet. Would have liked a slightly longer croup which might have helped his hind movement. Could have moved more freely around the ring.

Open Dog

6 entries.

1st: Roberts’
Ch. Hanafor Lord Stafford

Quality dog excels in breed type and balance. Excellent condition of both coat and muscle. Absolutely nothing I would change. Moved freely around the ring. Distinguished on the stack. Pleased to give him CC and Best in Show.

2nd: Tokaji Kennels’
Ch. Hanafor Simply Matyas
Medium sized, balanced dog of good colour. Pleasing head with good eye shape and colour. Strong purposeful mover although not as effortless as the winner. Not the overall quality. Reserve CC.
3rd: Orzeszko’s
Ch. Hanafor Master Gyles C.D.

Different type with very attractive head, super neck into wither giving an excellent topline from head to tail. In great condition. Moved around the ring like a true aristocrat. However I would have liked a slightly longer back and stronger movement.

Baby Puppy Bitch

3 entries, 1 absent.
Both with outstanding temperaments and ground covering strides for their age.

1st: Robert’s
Hungargunn Eurythmic
Well boned baby with lots to like, very good topline especially while moving. Good depth of chest, well angulated front with good reach of neck. At the moment a little long in body. Hindquarters good. Not quite settled in the ring but behaved sufficiently to assess on the move.
2nd: Neaves’
Kimlise Eslette

Another quality baby with a pleasing head, correct prosternum, depth of chest. Feet not quite straight at the moment and underline not as good as 1. Also preferred neck into withers in 1. Very well trained baby and very well handled.

Puppy Bitch

5 entries, 4 absent.
1st: Webber’s
Vizamy Samyz Mizar
A very happy puppy, covered plenty of ground, needs to settle down to steady movement otherwise assessment on the move is difficult. Would prefer less tuck up.

Junior Bitch 3 entries.
1st: Heemskerk’s
Tanrod Golden Jaffa

A paler bitch with steady even movement. In season, her tail carriage did not enhance her outline. This was a shame as she had strong, powerful hindquarters which looked as though she should have plenty of drive. Moderate all through. Feet could be better.

2nd: Masland’s
Vidiem Etelka

Medium sized, balanced bitch of good colour. Pleasing head. Strong forward movement not always under control. Lost on temperament and training.

3rd: Alderton’s
Hanafor Amazing Grace

Another medium sized bitch, elegant with lovely outline on the stack, lost it on the move. Needs to settle in the ring.

Intermediate Bitch 3 entries, 1 absent.
1st: Taylor’s
Ch. Kimlise Talisky

Medium sized, elegant bitch, well balanced with good colour and condition. Pleasing head and expression. Well angulated. Moved happily with enthusiasm. Preferred her elegance and energetic movement to 2. Reserve CC.

2nd: Neaves’
Ch. Pitswarren Esther [Imp. UK]

A darker, more solid bitch than 1. Beautifully presented in perhaps the best condition of any in the show. Attractive head. Well angulated, a little heavy in front. Moved around the ring with even, free flowing stride but not as sound going and coming as 1.

Australian Bred Bitch 2 entries.
1st: Starnovsky’s
Ch. Hanafor Phyn Phillida C.D., T.D.
An exceptionally balanced bitch of good colour, feminine from head to tail, quality bone. Good depth of chest. Well angulated front and rear. Sound going and coming. Super reach and drive whilst keeping topline and correct tail set and carriage. Thought she would be hard to beat when she powered round the ring on entry. Pleased to give her CC and Runner-up Best in Show. And must admit she pushed hard for Best in Show.
2nd: Middleton’s
Ch. Eicol Basic Instinct

A very pretty feminine bitch both stacked and moving. Sweet head and expression but needs more bone and substance.

Open Bitch 4 entries, 1 absent.
1st: Heemskerk’s
Ch. Hanafor Vari Arabella C.D.X.
Very balanced bitch of paler colour. Well put together with nothing to fault - but so bored!
2nd: Macken’s
Ch. Palaway Tiki Aura
Good sized bitch darker in colour than 1. Also moved more enthusiastically than 1. Profile movement was good but going and coming showed her to be a little wide in front. Eyes were somewhat foreign.
3rd: Masland’s
Ch. Vidiem Gold Beladonna
Mature bitch, 7½ years beginning to show her age. Nicely balanced , of medium size, good feet. Wide in front. Happy to show.
