Simon Digby - Vol 1 Issue 5 Feb 1998

Why do you think Hardware parties are so successful? "Well they have been around for over five years. And have built a good reputation amongst the rave community. They also have good quality production which always gets people talking. Hardware are also renown for there international and local talent"

Do you remember the first rave you went to and the feeling you had, does that ever make you want to be just a punter again? Yeah it was "Biology" at Albert park. It was a mad feeling that that is hard to recapture. But I always go to other peoples parties to try and get the punter thing happening. Doing that also helps my DJing as I don't lose my focus.

Do you think raves are in danger of becoming to commercial and if so is it a good or a bad? What is commercial? Yes more and more people are talking about raves, people that were listening to pop music before are now going to parties. Evolution is what is happening, as long as the music and concepts are still 'left of center' it is not a problem. Also it is good to see promoters putting on smaller more intermit parties, this keeps "Joe Bloggs" away!

What has been your most important gig as a DJ? My most important gig was probably CJ Boland Hardware 11 because that was the biggest crowd I have played in front of. Best gig was Sabotage in Sydney it was mad!

How did your relationship begin with hardware? My relationship with Hardware began early last year when I joined with Richie to put on the first Transatlantic I was DJng with hardware before but this was my first joint venture

Where do you see yourself going in the future? I see myself trying to push the music and artists I am into, as I love this. I'm planning on locking myself in a studio for a while and start expressing myself through my own music. Hardware has got a few things coming up Advent and Armand Van Helden at the Palace Easter Weekend. Also Oliver Lieb could be playing live New Years Eve at Kryal Castle . Other DJ's coming though Hardware will be Sven Vath around December. We are also planning an Australian Tour close to the year.

Hardware where do you see it going, how big can the rave scene get? Well New Years eve there were three parties I know off that had over 5000 people, that is unheard of in Australia, how much bigger do you want it to get? Hardware plan to do only a couple of parties a year pushing smaller parties though out the year. New venues is something we are working on, and we have a few surprises we are working on.
