Bertud: The Filipino-Australian Arts in Excellence is a collaborative effort of various Filipino-Australian arts institutions in Melbourne. Initiated by Tactical Designs -- a graphic arts studio -the project is supported by reputable institutions such as: FAME (Filipino Artist in Melbourne), SBS- Filipino Language Program, PACIN (Philippine Australia Cultural-Interaction Network) and TBM (Filipino Youth Theatre Company). Bertud will feature a calendar arts collection for the year 1999 and will incorporate a painting exhibition at its launch.

This project holds historic significance since this is the first initiative of its kind in the entire history and development of Filipino-Australian contemporary and traditional visual arts. It consolidates and diversifies works of art into a printed collection and will in the future, further extend to other artistic disciplines such as theatric, photographic, sculpture and graphic art by migrant Filipinos living in Australia.

Bertud translates broadly as virtue in the Filipino language.

The project is to be formally launched in early November alongside with a painting exhibition by participating artists to be attended by various representatives from arts institutions, Filipino community organisations, government bodies and project sponsors.
