The addition of any water feature in the garden gives the opportunity to create a point of
interest and beauty as well as a natural haven for fish and birds.
Indeed, this attraction
of birds to water is one of the unexpected benefits of creating a water environment in your
garden. There are many books and magazines available with ideas on how to build your water garden
feature and it is not the purpose of this page to dwell on these contructions techniques.
Basically, there are four different mediums in which to work with. These being:
1. Preformed fibre glass pools
2. Concrete ponds and
3. Pond liners in the form of vinyl or synthetic rubber or butyl sheeting.
4. Artificial rock water features.
The fibre glass ponds are quick and easy to install but relatively expensive.
Concrete can involve a lot of work and unless done properly can be subject to cracking and
leaking later. Unless adequately treated, the excess alkalinity leaching from the cement will
be harmful and possibly lethal to fish. Proper sealing and curing of a concrete pool is
essential before placing fish in your new pond.
The flexible vinyl, EPDM or butyl pond liners are generally more cost effective, when creating a pool of
a length two metres or more. They are easy to work with, lend themselves more readily in
adapting to a given area and their flexibility makes them less prone to cracking or damage from
earth movements or tree roots. Pool liners come in many sizes and can usually be custom made in
the factory to accommodate special sizes on request. Black polythene sheets commonly available
from most nurseries or hardware supplies are generally not suitable as pond liners as rapid
deterioration in sunlight usually occurs.
Vinyl liners are black in color. Liners designed for pond use are UV resistent and have a long
life. We sell off the roll and do not cut narrower than what is the roll width.

Special Double Sided Liner Joining Tapes are now available.
Placing rocks directly onto your pool liners has always been a bit risky owing to the fact that
heavy rocks may penetrate the thinner liners. We have now solved this problem and help the
environment at the same time. Discarded motor tyres are shredded and made into round mats of
about 50mm thick. The mats are placed directly onto the pool liners where you are going to
place rocks. The mats are a dark green/black in colour and easily blend into the water feature.
They are strong and readily support the rocks.
We can supply a range of artifical rock water features made by UNIVERSAL ROCKS.
We invite you to ask for a catalogue which details
all measurements of these ponds and waterfalls.
Upon selection of the items which suit your requirements we will then be pleased to give
you a firm price. Note that this price is ex-nursery only. We will not deliver. You will find
our prices especially competitive.
