Rectangular Ponds:
Length X Width X Depth ( in Metres ) X 1000 = Volume in Litres
Circular Ponds:
Diameter X Diameter X Depth ( in Metres ) X 785.5 = Volume in Litres
(Using this method will almost always give you a slightly greater quantity than the actual
volume, as not all ponds are completely even. It is always better to over calculate.)
This question is entirely up to the individual. Some people wish for only a trickle whilst
others want Niagra Falls. To establish the volume you require, test the waterfall with a
garden hose. Turn on the tap and allow the waterfall to start overflowing and then adjust
the tap until the flow is how you would like it to look. Without adjusting the tap again, take
the hose and fill a 10 litre bucket and time how long it takes. It if takes 30 seconds to fill
the bucket, you have 20 litres per minute flowing over the waterfall.
As a general rule, if fish are to be kept in the pond the answer is yes. Not only will the
filter help keep the water clear, it will also help control any toxins which may be harmful to
the fish.
